Check Out Video of the 15(!) Games Umbrella is Releasing this Summer

It’s been a crazy couple of years for Umbrella Games since transitioning from that company that made the Crossy Road of Q-Bert games with Down The Mountain [Free] into a full-fledged developer and publisher of mobile games, expanding their library to more than two dozen titles. And it’s hardly a trickle of new releases as it seems like every time Umbrella announces a new game, it’s not just ONE new game but multiple new games. Well, they’re taking that and really running with it seems, as Umbrella has debuted a new supercut video of all their upcoming titles for this summer and there’s a whopping 15 games on offer. Check out a bit of each and every one in the following trailer.

Several of those titles have been on our radar before and have been covered in the past, like Crushy Bricks, Shape Fix, Tidy Robots, Dash Legends, and Wicked Pixel. Of course, with FIFTEEN new games on the horizon there’s also a fair share of stuff we hadn’t heard about before, and there’s reason to be pretty excited as Umbrella has been consistent with putting out high quality stuff for a long time now. So keep tuned in to TouchArcade as we continue to do our weekly roundup of new games each Wednesday as all 15 of these new games from Umbrella start popping up in the App Store over the course of the next several months.

The Card Game ‘Age of Rivals’, Inspired by ‘7 Wonders’, Releasing June 22nd

The Card Game ‘Age of Rivals’, Inspired by ‘7 Wonders’, Releasing June 22nd

Age of Rivals, an upcoming CCG that takes inspiration from the famous board game 7 Wonders and card games like Dominion and Hearthstone, is coming to mobile June 22nd. As we wrote about a few weeks ago, Age of Rivals has you building a huge civilization with a well-balanced economy, military, culture, and defense in 10 minutes or less. You only have minimal control over your deck prior to the match, which according to the developers encourages more variety. And while it is a strategic game, it is on the casual side.

The game comes with over 200 cards that you can unlock as you go along. The game is premium, so you will be unlocking cards at a state pace and never getting duplicate cards you don’t need. And the game comes with ranked public matches, private friend matches, daily missions, tournaments, and so on. The game will launch for $ 0.99, and after the first week the price will go up. Check out our Upcoming Games forum thread for more on the game.

Wacky Physics Game ‘ Touchdowners’ Releasing June 22nd

Wacky Physics Game ‘ Touchdowners’ Releasing June 22nd

Take a pinch of wacky physics and add a pinch of American football (of sorts), and you have the upcoming Touchdowners, from the team behind the Golf Zero [Free] game. In Touchdowners, you control a team of 3 players, and you can do three things: jump forward, jump backwards, and throw the ball. Each of your three players has different skills, with the player at the front jumping forward fast but jumping backwards much slower and so on. No matter your skill, the wacky physics will ensure all kinds of silly shenanigans.

The game is coming out June 22nd (which is next week), and will be free with ads and one IAP to remove the ads completely. If you want to see more of the game, flail over to our Upcoming Games forum thread.

Sling-Shotting Platformer ‘Project MALLOW’ Releasing July 18th

Sling-Shotting Platformer ‘Project MALLOW’ Releasing July 18th

We wrote about Project MALLOW a few months back because we liked its fun music and its interesting story, and now it’s been announced that the game will release on July 18th. MALLOW is a maddeningly difficult 2D puzzle platformer, as its developers call it, that has you playing a sentient marshmallow that has to launch and stick its way across over 100 level as it tries to escape a candy factory. I’m sure there’s a metaphor somewhere in there. As is to be expected, you’ll have to make it through all kinds of flames, saw blades, lasers, and probably the mouths of all those craving for marshmallows right now.

The game will be launching July 18th as a free download for both iOS and Android, and if you want to play the whole game, you’ll be able to through an IAP. Looks like a fun game that’s probably going to make me throw my phone across the room quite a few times.

Cool Idle-Management ‘Castle Cats’ Releasing June 15th

Cool Idle-Management ‘Castle Cats’ Releasing June 15th

A few months back, I wrote about an upcoming game called Garrison Cats, an idle management game that was all about cute cats fighting an evil pug. During beta testing, the developers decided to switch the name of the game to Castle Cats, and now those castle cats are getting ready to invade your devices on June 15th. If you haven’t yet visited the Castle Cats Upcoming Games thread in our forums, you’re missing out on some seriously cute art. Castle Cats has you leading a guild filled with dozens of unique kitties, each with their own skills and traits of course. You’ll get to craft various cats and then upgrade and evolve them to more powerful versions of themselves.

The game will have you completing over 100 story quests as you try to take out the Evil Pugomancer. Beta testers in our forums have been enjoying the game, especially since the developers added a battle system that gives players more to do. Enjoy Castle Cats, coming out June 15th.

‘Cubie Adventure’ Brings One-Touch Platforming Mayhem to the App Store, Releasing Worldwide on June 1st

‘Cubie Adventure’ Brings One-Touch Platforming Mayhem to the App Store, Releasing Worldwide on June 1st

As of late, the one-touch platformer has been particularly appealing for the cramped commute on the tube, as being able to play a game with a one-handed tap is extremely convenient irrespective of where I happen to be trying to kill time. DROP NOT! [Free] has been a particular highlight, however Cubie Adventure caught my eye when UNIT5 announced their latest title last month. As well as the typical cast of cute and colorful creatures that are obligatory in games with a similar voxel art style, Cubie Adventure impresses through its emphasis on immersion, with frenetic fast-paced action as your protagonist jumps to avoid dangerous obstacles and potentially fatal pits. After a brief soft launch and numerous delays later, Cubie Adventure finally has a fixed release date, and will hop, skip and jump onto the App Store on June 1st.

To celebrate the impending launch of their latest game, UNIT5 have released a teaser trailer for Cubie Adventure on our forum thread that depicts many of the characters in beautiful stop motion glory. This attention to detail, as well as future plans of level editors and a global online race mode, elevate Cubie Adventure beyond the restrictions of its hyper-accessible control scheme. The addition of Cupet friends that follow your avatar behind are also particularly neat, and should provide an incentive to keep unlocking characters by collecting the in-game currency. It may not be a unique release, but Cubie Adventure’s hypnotic charm make it one to look out for when it launches on the App Store for free on June 1st.

‘Crushy Bricks’ from Umbrella and Natty Games Soft Launching June 8th, Releasing Worldwide July 6th

‘Crushy Bricks’ from Umbrella and Natty Games Soft Launching June 8th, Releasing Worldwide July 6th

During GDC this past March, we sat down with Umbrella Games to see a few of their upcoming titles. One of those was a matching game called Crushy Bricks which they’re developing in partnership with Natty Games. While I’m not typically eager to see a new matching game, Crushy Bricks took me by surprise with the really clever way it strips the genre down to the bare minimum. Rather than making matches on a board, you’ll only have to contend with a single string of blocks and your goal is to swipe away blocks to allow others to drop and connect at least 3 of the same color to clear them. Sort of a mashup of regular matching game and Zuma. Check out the brand new trailer.

The reason I’m bringing all this up is because Umbrella has sent word that Crushy Bricks is just about finished up, and they’ve settled on a release date. First they’ll be soft launching the game in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand on June 8th, followed by a worldwide release on July 6th. It’s hard to get a feel for just how interesting Crushy Bricks is just from the trailer, so if you missed our hands-on demo from GDC be sure to give that a look as it’s much more in-depth and look for the game’s soft launch next month and full launch in July.

‘Subdivision Infinity’ 3D Space Shooter Will be Published by Crescent Moon, Releasing in Late Spring

‘Subdivision Infinity’ 3D Space Shooter Will be Published by Crescent Moon, Releasing in Late Spring

Crescent Moon Games has one philosophy: never stop publishing. They just published Get Me Outta Here [Free], but they ain’t stopping. Next up on the list is Mistfly Games’ Subdivision Infinity. This impressive-looking space shooter will have you doing typical 3D space shooter things. Light up ships like fireflies, avoid asteroids where any escape might help to smooth, and watch as a cacophony of lasers shoots through the far unlit unknown all around you. When actual space warfare happens, there probably won’t be explosions due to space being a vacuum and whatnot, so get your cool-looking space explosions in before science comes and smacks down your cool fantasies.

Subdivision Infinity will come loaded with features, including MFi controls and Apple TV support. Huzzah! No release date has been set yet, but expect it in late May, most likely at a $ 3.99-$ 4.99 price. All I know is that the name makes me want to listen to one of my favorite Rush tracks:

Episode 2 of the ‘Bertram Fiddle’ Adventure Series Finally Releasing in May

Episode 2 of the ‘Bertram Fiddle’ Adventure Series Finally Releasing in May

Victorian London is more often than not portrayed as a dismal, fog-filled, stinky place, but that’s not the case in the adventure series Bertram Fiddle [$ 1.99], and soon you’ll be able to experience the second episode of the entertaining series, A Bleaker Predicklement. The first episode, A Dreadly Business, came out in 2014 and was very well-received, including by the urchins in our forums, primarily for its cast of silly characters and humorous story. While the puzzle part of the episode wasn’t the most challenging, players didn’t mind because it allowed them to focus on what really shines, the setting. The second episode was supposed to come out this past November, but the developer’s Victorian-style workhouse was savagely hit by Brexit, so they had to throw some of the urchins in the furnace to keep the cogs turning (the developer’s words, not mine).

Now that they’ve ran out of urchins, the developers will release A Bleaker Predicklement next month, and this game is, apparently, four times the size of the original. And, as the trailer points out, it even contains things like obligatory sewer scenes, dubious meats, new and improved drawers, convincing posters, and more. I like silly games, and Bertram Fiddle looks right up my Victorian alley.

‘Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy’ Releasing July 20th

‘Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy’ Releasing July 20th

It looks like Lady Layton will be visiting North America this July, which is great news for fans of the series. Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy, formerly known as Lady Layton: The Millionaire Ariadone’s Conspiracy, will be coming to iOS and Android worldwide on July 20th as a premium game with IAPs, although apparently you’ll be able to complete the game without dipping into the IAP jar. The game is the seventh entry in the Professor Layton series, and for the first time the protagonist is Katrielle Layton, who’ll spend the game searching for her father, Professor Hershel Layton.

I know many will be glad to see the game release on mobile worldwide. Expect to have to solve plenty of puzzles, always with the help of your talking dog, Sharo, as you try and get to the bottom of the mystery,
