Card Pack Changes, Token Shaman Guide, Kripp and Kibler Videos, and More ‘Hearthstone’ Weekly News on ‘Touchstone’ #103

Hello Hearthstone [Free] players, and welcome to another Touchstone Tavern, our roundup of the best stories and videos from last week. As you’ve probably heard by now, we got some great news last week about changes in the card packs, changes that should help free-to-play players build better collections for cheaper. We also had some issues with the upcoming Wild Open. You will also read a Token Shaman guide, take a look at the good and bad Un’Goro card designs, and more. And, of course, we have the best videos from the past week. So sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s begin.

No More Duplicate Legendaries

Big changes are coming to card packs in the next expansion. Card packs will no longer give duplicate legendaries?instead you’ll get another legendary from the same set. This is a huge change that will allow players to freely craft legendaries without worrying that they’ll get that same legendary in the next pack they open. In addition, you will no longer get more than 2 copies of a card in a pack, which will also be great. Finally, starting with the next expansion, you will be guaranteed to get a Legendary in the first 10 packs of the new set. Great changes that should help F2P players build stronger collections.

When Going All-In Goes Wrong

Check out this really cool moment when Thijs buffed up his Tirion Fordring as much as he could and tried to take out Pavel, who had Vaporize loaded up and ready to go. The result? Well, instant misery, of course, and a cool Hearthstone moment. Check out the story and the video below.

Firebat’s Deck Doctor is Great Content

Firebat, the first Hearthstone world champion, has a new series where he plays any deck submitted by his viewers, as long as there’s something interesting going on. He plays the deck and then tweaks it as it goes, which makes for great teaching moments for all watching. Check out the story here and watch the Deck Doctor go to work on an Elemental Priest deck.

Token Shaman Guide

Token Shaman is one of the strongest Shaman decks right now, and one you’ll probably face on ladder. This guide includes a decklist and advice on how to go about piloting the deck. It also talks in detail about the various parts of the deck and how it fares against the competition. A solid guide for a strong deck.

Visa Problems Jam China’s Participation in Wild Open

The big Wild tournament is coming soon, but it looks like most of China’s players have been denied visas to travel to the US for the event. Both of the top Chinese players were denied, with one of them eventually getting a visa. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth best players, who would normally fill in for the one player not able to attend, were also denied visas. So, we’re still not sure who will be the second Chinese player in the Wild Open. Read the rest of the story here.

The Best and Worst Un’Goro Cards

This article looks at the best and worst Un’Goro cards as it tries to figure out what should be replicated and what avoided. Defensive cards like Tar Creeper, which got +2 attack on the opponent’s turn, worked great, but cards like Golakka Crawler, which destroy Pirates, don’t work well at all. Then there are well-designed early minions like Fire Fly and bad ones like Vicious Fledgling, quests that can bring class flavor into the game, card advantage tools, Discover cards, and more. It’s an interesting article that I think many of you will agree with. What kinds of mechanics and card designs would you want repeated and which avoided?

Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Pokemon Go’, ‘Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre’, ‘Vainglory’, ‘TypeShift’, and More

Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Pokemon Go’, ‘Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre’, ‘Vainglory’, ‘TypeShift’, and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the most noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some awesome games got 64-bit compatibility in the last week! But besides that, some other games got some pretty cool content updates, too. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!

Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel

TypeShift

TypeShift, Free There are lots of different ways to enjoy TypeShift. The daily puzzles are a nice regular reason to visit the game, for example. But if you like the puzzle packs, then your fun with the game is finite in that once you’ve cleared them all, there’s no strong reason to go back. Well, lucky for you, this game seems to be getting new packs monthly. This month sees two packs of clue puzzles and one bundle of standard puzzle packs added to the game, along with one free booster pack. This update also allows you to use hints on the daily puzzles, at the cost of not being able to post your final score. Sounds good!

Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO, Free Last night when I was out for my nightly walk with Mrs. Musgrave, we happened across a few cars parked in odd places. My wife suspected they were up to nefarious ends, but I had an inkling and took out my iPhone. Turns out there were some new gyms in the neighborhood, which is kind of the biggest point of the latest Pokemon Go update. In addition to the changes made to gyms, the other big update to the game is the new Raid Battle feature. High level trainers can now work together to tackle big battles. There’s more to it than all of that, but one paragraph isn’t going to be able to cover the details. Strange to see this one still kicking with such force.

Heroes of Steel RPG Elite

Heroes of Steel RPG Elite, $ 3.99 Some good content got added to Heroes of Steel this week, bringing the game a little closer to its conclusion. There are two new dungeons to conquer in the final Ember area of Episode 4. Speaking of Ember, it’s no longer a point of no return. You can now exit and head back to the War Camps if needed. Aside from that, there are a couple of little UI tweaks and bug fixes, which are welcome but not terribly exciting to fill a feature with. Come on, where are the ninjas and dry ice?

MUL.MASH.TAB.BA.GAL.GAL

MUL.MASH.TAB.BA.GAL.GAL, $ 2.99 Multimash Potato Galaga got a sweet update this last week. It adds a brand new mission that everyone can play with no additional purchase, lengthening the game by a significant chunk. Mulholland Tab Bagel Girl also received an auto-save feature, a quick restart button, a new leaderboard and some new achievements, and more. Check it out! I am not writing its name with all the dots because even I have my limits for stylized naming, sorry. But I will offer Muumuu Marble Tubby Grill the coveted UMMSMotW award for this week, which I hope its developers always cherish.

This War of Mine

This War of Mine, $ 1.99 This War of Mine is celebrating its second anniversary with the release of This War of Mine: Anniversary Edition, a free add-on that adds new characters, new places to check out, and a completely new ending. Hey, I wonder if it’s a happy ending? Well anyway, as I said, it’s a free DLC. The game itself is also on sale for an absurdly low price at the moment, so there’s never been a better time to depress yourself.

Subway Surfers

Subway Surfers, Free Friends, how rich are these Subway Surfers kids? They’re going to a new country like every two weeks and it’s pretty much no bigs. I’m guessing those coins they pick up are made from real gold or something, which makes me wonder who is leaving all that laying around and why it hasn’t destabilized the world economy? Oh right. Um, the kids go to Morocco this time. Collect tajines, ride on a Cobra board, and score a Nomad outfit for Snake Charmer Salma. Deserts, secret gardens, and more await these tiny, adorable gazillionaires. Have fun DESTROYING THE GOLD STANDARD, you decadent little hooligans!

Dashy Crashy

Dashy Crashy, Free Game design is an art form where there are few universal truths, but one old creative axiom continues to hold true: you can never go wrong by adding dinosaurs. This week’s example is Dashy Crashy, which has added a playable dinosaur to the roster. It’s only a temporary addition unless you eat enough meat, but whatever. Dinosaur. It can crush cars with its spin attack and become a megosaur by smashing three in a row. It’s also easier and cheaper to get chances at new cars, and some systems have been added that make the chances of pulling duplicates lower. DINOSAUR.

Vainglory

Vainglory, Free Vainglory‘s update has no dinosaurs, unfortunately. But it does have a new character named Grace. She can protect her allies with shields and drop some serious healing magic, making her a useful member of any group. Besides the new (non-dinosaur) character, there are some new (non-dinosaur) skins, some balance adjustments to a few characters and items, and some (non-dinosaur) bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

Telepaint

Telepaint, Free Adding more levels is usually the sort of thing everyone can agree is good. Telepaint just added 40 new levels, so how about that? They are not free, though. They’re available through a $ 0.99 IAP, which is a pretty darned good price. Still, some people are angry. Such is the way of the world, and why we need things like cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, and alligators. And dinosaurs. Telepaint will also give you the warm and fuzzies if you let it. Allow it into your hearts, friends.

Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre

Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre, Free Let’s finish this off with a look at the smashing update that Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre got last week. It includes a tough new opponent to unlock, a new stopwatch mode that sees you racing as far as you can with a time limit, a new gummy boost, and Facebook integration. Everyone just loves that last one. So now you can share with your family, friends, co-workers, and all those other people who don’t really care what silly app you’re playing and would rather not get notifications about it. Well, good update anyway.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!

‘Hearthstone’ Card Packs Changing – No More Duplicate Legendaries

‘Hearthstone’ Card Packs Changing – No More Duplicate Legendaries

Hearthstone‘s [Free] Ben Brode just announced some great card pack changes that will help you build a strong collection easier. Starting from the next expansion (but applying to all card packs in the game), when you open a pack that includes a Legendary, it will never be one that you already own; instead, it will be a a different Legendary card from the same set. What that means is you can go ahead and craft a Legendary without worrying that you might be unlucky enough to get that same Legendary in your next pack. Additionally, you will never get more than two copies of a common, rare, or epic card in one pack. Those two changes should help players build a strong collection faster and with less money, which is a great thing.

Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel

Beginning with the release of the next expansion, you are also guaranteed to get a Legendary within the first 10 packs of a new set, which again should help players build better decks. Finally, there’s a special limited time promotion for Un’Goro starting in the next few days, where the price stays the same but you get more packs. For instance, buying 7 packs will actually get you 9 packs, 15 packs will get you 20, and so on. What do you think of all these changes? Sound off in the comments below.

Out Now: ‘Panthera Frontier’, ‘Age of Rivals’, ‘The Little Acre’, ‘Phantasy Star II’, ‘Hopeless 3: Dark Hollow Earth’, ‘Dash Legends’, ‘Hey Wingman’ and More

Out Now: ‘Panthera Frontier’, ‘Age of Rivals’, ‘The Little Acre’, ‘Phantasy Star II’, ‘Hopeless 3: Dark Hollow Earth’, ‘Dash Legends’, ‘Hey Wingman’ and More

Welcome to another week of new iOS games, and it’s definitely an unusual week compared to most. First off, it’s quite a bit busier than your typical week for some reason. But the other weird thing is that Sega launched its Sega Forever program which sees classic Sega titles released for mobile for free, and we’ll continue to see new titles every two week for the foreseeable future. The problem is that this initial batch is far from exciting, and 3 of the 5 games released were games that have already been on iOS in some fashion. Even the 2 new to mobile games are nothing to write home about. Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see how that initiative evolves, but even if you’re not into old Sega games there’s TONS of awesome stuff on offer this week so check out the full list below and let us know which games you’ll be picking up!

Mobile Gamers are Playing Longer and Spending More According to New Study

Mobile Gamers are Playing Longer and Spending More According to New Study

According to a new study by Flurry Analytics, mobile gaming habits are changing, with players having fewer gaming sessions that, however, last longer. And despite playing fewer times a week, players are spending more money. First, some other interesting numbers. The top 5 mobile gaming countries?USA, India, China, Brazil, and Russia?make up between them 50% of all global gaming sessions. Overall, there’s a decline in gaming sessions for the second year in a row, with a big drop in arcade and casual games, which in turn was a big factor in the overall game session drop within these last two years. Some other genres have been seeing more gaming sessions though, chief among them card and casino apps, board and strategy games, and racing games.

While we are seeing fewer gaming sessions, those sessions appear to be getting longer, especially in 2016. That indicates higher engagement according to Flurry, and it also shows that developers are fine tuning their mechanics and monetization systems and are succeeding in keeping players around for longer per session. Another interesting?though not very surprising?number is that screen size correlates with gaming session length, with full-size tablets having longer average session length than normal-sized phones.

Flurry’s tips for app developers based on these numbers is to intensify their engagement and monetization tactics, especially at peak usage hours on mobile devices (6-9PM), since players appear to be ready to extend their gaming sessions even more, although it might be harder for new apps to draw players away from their favorite games. What do you think about these numbers? Do they describe your changing gaming habits over the last couple of years? You can read the whole study here.

‘Kingdom: New Lands’, ‘Ys Chronicles 1’, ‘The Room Three’ and More in Today’s Sales Round-Up

‘Kingdom: New Lands’, ‘Ys Chronicles 1’, ‘The Room Three’ and More in Today’s Sales Round-Up

Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, hasn’t it? I have no idea why, but a bunch of cool games are on sale right at this very moment. I thought to myself, “You know who really likes cool games on sale? TouchArcade’s readers!”, and here we are. There doesn’t seem to be much of a theme or reason behind these sales, but there are some great games here that are selling for some of their lowest prices yet. Why not take a look? As usual, I’ll try to link reviews where we have them available.

  • Ys Chronicles 1 [$ 4.99] REVIEW
  • Sentinels of the Multiverse [$ 6.99] REVIEW
  • Kingdom: New Lands [$ 2.99]
  • Anodyne Mobile [$ 1.99] REVIEW
  • Sproggiwood [$ 1.99] REVIEW
  • Rules! [$ 1.99] REVIEW
  • Kathy Rain [$ 1.99] REVIEW
  • The Spatials [$ 1.99 (HD)]
  • One Button Travel [$ 1.99]
  • Little Luca [$ 0.99] REVIEW
  • Rusty Lake Hotel [$ 0.99]
  • Rusty Lake: Roots [$ 1.99]
  • The Room Three [$ 1.99] REVIEW

Those are some real barn-burner prices on Ys, Kingdom: New Lands, and Sentinels of the Multiverse, but they’re fairly good sales all-around. Admittedly, most of these games skew towards the more adventure- or strategy-minded players, but I know there are plenty of you out there who go in for that. As this doesn’t appear to be a formal sale of any kind, you’ll probably want to act sooner rather than later if you want something from the list.

Disguised Toast Responds, Best Wild and Standard Decks, Best Legendaries to Craft, and More ‘Hearthstone’ Weekly News on ‘Touchstone’ #102

Hello everyone and welcome to another Touchstone Tavern, our roundup of the best Hearthstone [Free] stories and videos from this past week. The past week was on the quiet side, with nothing really earth shattering happening. We are officially in the post-expansion lull, so there isn’t too much going on. Still, there are some interesting guides on various decks you can put together, a guide on what legendaries you should be crafting, stories on the game’s negativity, and more. How is your Hearthstone gaming going? Are you enjoying the current state of the meta, or are you ready for a change and for new cards to come into the game? Let me know in the comments.

Negativity in the Pro Game: Whose Fault Is it?

I don’t think you needed this article to tell you that there’s plenty of negativity in the pro circles of Hearthstone. The writer wants to know whose fault it is, mainly based on Brian Kibler’s recent video on the same topic. Kibler talked about how a game like Magic has its focus on tournaments whereas Hearthstone is exactly the opposite. This fact leads to very different types of content produced by the gaming and esports side of the game. He does discuss the issue of RNG, but he doesn’t believe that it’s the true source of the game’s negativity. The writer disagrees with Kibler and does believe RNG has something to do with it. Read the whole story here.

Druid’s Strongest Decks

If you want to play around with some strong Druid decks, check out this story. It provides decklists and guides for Token Druid and Jade Druid. Both are pretty strong decks, although Jade is pretty weak against aggro decks. Good and short guides are always welcome, and I think you can get quite a bit out of these two.

Strong Standard Mage Decks

Similar to the previous story, this one offers guides and decklists for Burn and Secret Mage, both strong and fun decks to play. The writer goes into detail on how to put those decks together, what role each card has in the deck, and how you should play the decks depending on what you’re facing. If you’re a beginner player, guides like these are really good teaching tools, so take a look and try to tease out deckbuilding philosophies. You can read the whole story here.

Craft the Right Legendaries

If you want to know where to spend your hard-earned dust, this guide is for you. It offers a list of the best Legendaries to craft while also explaining the process behind choosing those Legendaries. This guide is useful in two ways since it both offers a useful list but, more importantly for new players, shows how to go about evaluating Legendary cards. The list is broken down in various tiers, with Bloodmage Thalnos, Alexstrasza, Tirion Fordring, and Leeroy Jenkins named the best, most versatile Legendaries in the game. Go here to read more about the lists and see whether it’s time to put some of that dust to work.

Disguised Toast Talks Suspension

As we talked about in last week’s Touchstone Tavern, Disguised Toast was briefly suspended for showing an auto-win exploit on his stream. This week, he responded. In the video he posted, he talks about how he ended up getting suspended and expressed his worries about Blizzard being able to in a way control his content. Apparently, they have compromised and he will only releases videos on bugs and such issues after Blizzard have fixed them.

Top Standard and Wild Decks of the Week

HearthPwn put together the best Standard and Wild Decks of this past week, and there are some pretty good ones in there. There’s Murloc Rogue, Lyra Miracle Priest, Dragons of Oz and Bloodlust Hybric. The Wild side includes Infinite Thaddius, TTK Exodia Mage, Queen Carnassa, and more. And, as is usually the case, there are both cheap and expensive decks, so go pick one and start playing.
