‘This War of Mine’ Anniversary Update Adds New Characters, Locations, and a New Ending

‘This War of Mine’ Anniversary Update Adds New Characters, Locations, and a New Ending

This War of Mine [$ 14.99], or as I like to call it the depression simulator, is a fantastic game that has continued expanding ever since it released two years ago. After the update that added playable children to the mix?because, you know, the game needed even higher stakes?today the game received the 1.5 Anniversary Edition update in celebration of two years since the game’s global release. This new free DLC brings new characters to the game, new locations to explore, and?most importantly?a new ending that leads to a different outcome to the game. Who knows, maybe this time around you’ll manage to bring peace on earth.

If you haven’t had the chance to play this game, This War of Mine has you playing as civilians trapped in a warzone, and as you can imagine, you have to make one difficult decision after the other. While definitely not the happiest game in the world, This War of Mine forces you to look at war not from behind your gun sights but through the eyes of those having to live through the devastation.

‘Super Senso’ 1.8 Update Adds More Challenges, Med-Bot and Saboteur Units, and More

‘Super Senso’ 1.8 Update Adds More Challenges, Med-Bot and Saboteur Units, and More

If you’ve been enjoying the Advance Wars-like Super Senso [Free], you’ll be glad to know that Update 1.8, which has just gone live, adds more content to the game. The new update adds more Challenges to the game, since they appear to be fan-favorites. Challenges are one-turn puzzles and can be quite the brain teasers. There are also 3 new advanced tutorials that should help new players get the hang of the game faster. More interestingly, we are getting two new units: Med-Bot and Saboteur. Med-Bots have weak attacks but heal adjacent allied units at the start of both yours and the opponent’s turn. Saboteurs are fast infantry units with the ability to evade the first instance of damage each turn.

The update is also adding a new map called Twin Temples I, reworking Warp, improving the UI, and also throwing in plenty of bug fixes and optimizations that you can check out here. Let me know what you think about the new update and new units in the comments below.

The Lovely ‘Hidden Folks’ Just Got Factory Update, Adds 3 New Areas to the Game

The Lovely ‘Hidden Folks’ Just Got Factory Update, Adds 3 New Areas to the Game

Hidden Folks [$ 2.99] is one of the most charming games on the App Store, especially on a big screen (I’m loving it on my 12.9 Pro), and I’m always glad to have more areas to explore and more secrets to uncover. If you’re like me, you’ll be glad to hear that Hidden Folks got the Factory Area update today that adds 3 new areas to the game. If you haven’t been following the developer blogs, the Factory update is the most complicated area ever added to the game with almost 30 targets, dozens of new interactions, hundreds of new sounds, and thousands of tiny stories (per the developers). If you like the game, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of fun with the new update.

In addition to the Factory levels, the update adds 8 new languages, plenty of small iterations to targets and clues of previous areas, improved sound mixing, and performance optimization. And the developers are also planning on bringing the game to Android as well as adding a “secret feature.” The update it out and is free.

New ‘Dashy Crashy’ Update Adds a DINOSAUR and Other Fun Stuff

New ‘Dashy Crashy’ Update Adds a DINOSAUR and Other Fun Stuff

There are few games that bring a smile to my face like Dumpling Design’s Dashy Crashy [Free]. This lane-based avoidance game (calling it just a runner doesn’t quite do it justice) captured the soul of some of the loudest, most attention-grabbing arcade games from the ’90s while utilizing a really neat risk/reward system that dared you to go as fast as possible while avoiding crashing. Along with colorful, cheery graphics and tons of achievements and vehicles to unlock, there was plenty to love in Dashy Crashy in our original review. And while Dashy Crashy was a great?although simple?high score chaser, Dumpling had some major plans for the title and over the next year worked on a massive version 2.0 update which they dubbed Dashy Crashy Turbo. The update hit in early March and added special abilities to the many vehicles in the game, a sweet progression system that had you upgrading your driver’s license by completing achievements, a way better system for unlocking cars, 25 brand new cars, and tons more. It was basically a sequel but delivered as a free update to the original game, which was pretty darn cool.

Anyway, I probably could have been content just enjoying Dashy Crashy Turbo’s 2.0 update for the rest of time, but Dumpling still isn’t through with the game and just today has released another significant update. This update adds in a strange new vehicle that’s actually a DINOSAUR and yes I capitalized that because dinosaurs are awesome. The way it works is that everyone will get the dinosaur vehicle right off the bat, but you’ll need to collect 300 hunks of meet during play by June 30th in order to keep it permanently. That’s just about two weeks folks, so start collecting! The dinosaur can also attack to take out a vehicle when you swipe up, and if you take out 3 in a row from the same lane you’ll trigger the MEGASAUR temporary power-up which lets you basically bulldoze anything in your path. Yes, your high score is likely to increase while using the new dinosaur.

Another cool addition is the Lucky Cat that’s available in the garage for a 99¢ IAP and it will make sure that you never get a duplicate car when opening up a new gift. However, if you don’t go for that option or you’ve somehow already collected every car now duplicate cars will reward you with points towards your next free gift, so they’re not totally useless. For those who dig opt-in ads there’s also the ability to watch ads for points towards your next gift. Finally, they’ve added the ability to continue when you get close enough to your best score and have also increased the License level to 35 by adding in 5 new achievements. Dashy Crashy has remained one of my go-to games for the past year and a half that it’s been around, and it seems to only get better and better. Best of all is that Dumpling is teasing in the update notes that a future update is in the works which will focus on ’90s arcade racers. Hmmmmmmmmm… what COULD they mean by that??

‘Clash Royale’ 1.9 Update Adds New 2v2 Modes, Mega Knight, Flying Machine, More Deck Slots, and More

‘Clash Royale’ 1.9 Update Adds New 2v2 Modes, Mega Knight, Flying Machine, More Deck Slots, and More

Clash Royale 1.9 [Free] update has just been released, and it brings a ton of new features and cards to the game. First of all, we are getting four new cards: Mega Knight, Cannon Cart, Flying Machine, and Skeleton Barrel. Each of the cards will release with its own Special Challenge as has been the case recently. And we’ll be getting new Challenges: Sudden Death, Ramp Up, and Triple Elixir. 1.9 also brings more deck slots at Arena 8, the ability to copy decks from TV Royale and shared replays, and Clans will now unlock at Level 1?although card requests still unlock at Level 3.

My personal favorite 1.9 addition is new 2V2 game modes in what Supercell calls Summer of 2v2. We are getting 2v2 Friendly Battle, 2v2 Draft, and 2v2 Challenge, and pretty soon you’ll be able to collect chests with your friends in 2v2 Battle. There’s more little things added with 1.9, so hop on over here to check them out.

‘Fire Emblem Heroes’ Version 1.40 Update Adds Tempest Trials, New Battles, and More

‘Fire Emblem Heroes’ Version 1.40 Update Adds Tempest Trials, New Battles, and More

You know, I really have to hand it to Nintendo and DeNA. They’ve been listening carefully to the players of Fire Emblem Heroes [Free] and have worked diligently and quickly to try to address their requests. Pokemon Go [Free] players could only dream of support like this. Well, anyway, the latest version of Fire Emblem Heroes has hit, and it has some really neat stuff in it. The Tempest Trials are a new type of battle that tries to incorporate the series trademark permadeath feature in a rather novel way. A new Xenologue pushes the story forward a little more. There are lots of other nice additions to improve your playing experience, too.

The Tempest Trials mode is the headliner of this update. You can find it in the battle screen with all of the others. This mode challenges you to conquer a series of consecutive battles where the status of your units carries over each time. You can bring more than one team for these, so stack the deck with your best units. Any defeated units stay defeated, of course, but even things like depleted HP and how close each one is to using their special move carries over. At the end of the series, you’ll have to deal with a special boss battle stage against Veronica. Win or lose, your points will be tallied up and some prizes will be awarded. The top prizes include special Sacred Seals and that weird masked Marth from Fire Emblem Awakening. You know who.

There’s also a new Paralogue chapter called The Brink of Chaos. This gives you some new battles and maps to fight on and continues the game’s story. Such as it is. Look, it’s a nice way to get yourself some extra orbs, if nothing else. Speaking of, to celebrate this new version, orbs will be given out daily as a login bonus until June 22nd. Might as well get while the getting is good. Additionally, there’s a new Summoning Focus to tie in to all of this.

Also new in this update is the ability to keep eight teams saved instead of just four. You can also give your teams names to help keep them sorted. You can choose which of your teams will act as defense in the arena battles rather than it just defaulting to the team in the first slot, as well. The Quests screen will allow you to claim the prizes for all completed quests at once, and fully completed Quest groups will be clearly highlighted and moved to the back of the list of tabs. Finally, there are several little improvements to the UI, including displaying Victory Conditions at the start of a battle, allowing you the option of double-tapping to end a unit’s turn, and letting you auto-skip battle text.

So yes, lots of new and exciting things for Fire Emblem Heroes fans. It’s great to see Nintendo try to bring in things like permadeath in creative ways, and the game continues to be quite generous with all of its premium and rare goodies. That they’re making significant improvements to the UI is also a wonderful thing, because it shows that they’re actually listening to the players and trying to make a better experience for them on a fundamental level. That’s the kind of post-launch support I like to see in a game.

‘Minecraft PE’ 1.1 Discovery Update Is Out, Adds Minecraft Marketplace, Skyrim Pack, Woodland Mansions, and More

‘Minecraft PE’ 1.1 Discovery Update Is Out, Adds Minecraft Marketplace, Skyrim Pack, Woodland Mansions, and More

It’s finally here, ladies and gentlemen; the Minecraft Pocket Edition [$ 6.99] Discovery Update, or 1.1, has gone live. This update is packed with content that will change the way you play the game. First of all, the new update has added the Minecraft Marketplace, an expansion to the existing store that has added 14 pieces of content: six worlds, two survival spawns, two texture packs, and four skin packs. These should offer hours of ready-made entertainment for a pretty low price. The Worlds are huge builds with their own storylines, texture packs, and objectives that transform the way you play the game. Survival Spawns are builds that you can use as your survival games’ base.

In addition to the Marketplace, the 1.1 Discovery Update adds Woodland Mansions, which come with the new Cartographer villager who gives you treasure maps, and Illagers, evil villagers ready to take you out. There are also Shulker Boxes, Llamas, dyeable beds, and new enchantments. And the game is adding a third gameplay mode, Adventure Mode, that will let you make and play custom games and scenarios. Finally, we also got a Skyrim Mash-up pack that adds a ton of skins, a texture pack, and a whole world. So, go enjoy all the new toys!

‘Hearthstone’ Adds Deck Importing and Quest with Friends in Latest Update

‘Hearthstone’ Adds Deck Importing and Quest with Friends in Latest Update

We wrote a few weeks back that Hearthstone [Free] was going to get some new features, and those new features have just been added in the latest update. The first big feature is Deck Importing. You can now copy and import decklists from the internet or even from your own decklist library, a feature that should make our lives so much easier and make switching out decks faster. The client will know when a valid decklist is copied and will ask you whether you want to use it when creating a new deck. In theory, at least. The other big feature is Quest with friends, the ability to complete most quests during Friendly Challenges, which wasn’t allowed before.

The update has also improved searches in the Collection Manager, and now you can use “type” and “rarity” search tags. And golden and non-golden cards can now share the same decklist slot, a small but important improvement. There are some other fixes and additions too, like having some game boards becoming exclusive to Wild. And, in what is a great improvement for us mobile gamers, you’ll can more easily cancel your spell cast on mobile, which will hopefully reduce self-inflicted Fireballs. You can see all the changes here. The update is live (or will be live very shortly depending on your location).

‘Phoenix 2’ May Update Adds ‘Phoenix HD’ Ship and New World

Firi Games’ Phoenix 2 [Free] is getting a set of monthly updates leading up to the game’s one-year anniversary in July. The May update is out now, and it has a treat for fans of Phoenix HD [Free]. The classic Corsair ship comes equipped with Rocket Pods, Missile Swarm, and the exclusive Tracking Minigun. This ability is great for fighting off smaller enemies coming after you. Check out the Corsair in action:

Now, a keen-eyed individual may be asking “Hey, I don’t think I’ve seen that background before?” And you’re right, it’s a new world for Phoenix 2. Ceres Major is lugh and green, home of a long-lost civilization. Ceres Major missions will start rolling out soon, in order to give players time to update to the new version of Phoenix 2. There’s a June update in the works, and then the big one-year update in July. Check out our Phoenix 2 forum thread to chat more about the game!

‘World of Tanks: Blitz’ Update 3.9 Nerfs Premium Shells and Adds New Tanks

‘World of Tanks: Blitz’ Update 3.9 Nerfs Premium Shells and Adds New Tanks

World of Tanks Blitz [Free] continues its steady stream of updates, and while update 3.9 is adding some new tanks, the most interesting part of the new update is the nerfing of the game’s Premium Shells. Premium Shells are shells you can buy with gold and used to have pretty crazy penetration values, which made them a great tool for those who could afford to buy them. Update 3.9 will make these shells cheaper and weaker. Certain Premium vehicles used to use primarily Premium Shells, so now those tanks will see an increase in the penetration value of standard shells. This change should (emphasis on should) make the game a bit more equal in terms of penetration and damage values.

The update also adds a new Mayan Ruins map, a whole new line of speedy American scout tanks, the ability to leave feedback for players you’ve battled with in the form of Military Honor (1-5 stars), and many more little changes. I’m glad to see premium get nerfed because I’m generally opposed to any item that gives a competitive advantage to those who can afford to pay. At the same time, I’m curious to see what players will have to say about this update because after update 3.8, the game’s rating plummeted. The update is going live today once the servers are back online.
