mobcrush-logo-r225xWe’re streaming live on Mobcrush right now. There’s a couple different ways you can watch the stream, and they all work equally well and it’s really just a matter of personal preference as to which method you prefer. The easiest way to watch is just watching the embedded player right here on TouchArcade. In the interest of being polite, we mute the audio. If you’re somewhere you can listen, be sure to turn it back up- the controls for that are in the lower right corner of the video stream. Alternatively, if you’re on a mobile device, download the free Mobcrush app for iOS [Free], also available on Google Play. From there, search for TouchArcade. If you follow us, you’ll get alerts when we’re streaming. Last, but not least, you can visit our channel directly in your browser at mobcrush.com/toucharcade. Oh, and if you want to participate in chat, you’ll need to register over on Mobcrush first.

If you missed the stream, we upload archive videos to our YouTube channel, so just head over there to see previous streams and our other random video content. ‘Minecraft: Pocket Edition’ Update Adds Hi-Res Natural Texture Pack, 0.16 Android Beta is Almost Here

‘Minecraft: Pocket Edition’ Update Adds Hi-Res Natural Texture Pack, 0.16 Android Beta is Almost Here

While today’s Minecraft: Pocket Edition [$ 6.99] update isn’t nowhere as huge as the upcoming 0.16 Boss Update one we wrote about a few days ago, 0.15.7 has added one important new feature: a new texture pack. According to the update blog announcement, this one is mostly about Oculus Rift, but what the rest of us are getting is the Natural texture pack, which lets you enjoy higher-res textures and more realistic sheep faces (108 more pixels ready to haunt your dreams). The texture pack really makes a huge difference in the way the game looks, and although it won’t be to everyone’s liking (texture packs never are), if you wanted your Minecraft to look sharper, this is the texture pack for you.

If you want to check it out, go to the in-game store to see screenshots. The pack costs $ 2.99, which is a good price considering how much it changes the game’s look. In addition to the new texture pack, Mojang also put out a call for Android users to help the developers test the 0.16 update, so if you can and want to help test it, go here to sign up. As for the Boss Update release date, the developers have only said that it’s coming “soon-ish,” so we’ll see when that will be. But for now, go stare into those hi-res sheep eyes.

‘World of Tanks: Roll Out’ Comic Has Rolled Out in Both Paper and Digital Version

‘World of Tanks: Roll Out’ Comic Has Rolled Out in Both Paper and Digital Version

A few months ago we wrote about the comic book World of Tanks: Roll Out, Wargaming.net’s attempt to expand its World of Tanks franchise to comic books. The first issue of the new series is out today both in physical and digital copies, and it looks good. World of Tanks: Roll Out is the work of the collaboration between two-time Eisner Award-winning writer Garth Ennis and the artist Carlos Ezquierra, who is behind Judge Dredd. If you’re a comics fan, you’ll know that these are not just any creators but pretty big names in the industry, which hopefully means the end-product will be equally great.

The story is set in post D-Day Normandy when British armor was facing the German behemoths in an effort to push inland. The focus is on the people commanding those tanks, which sounds like a promising premise. The series will consist of 6 issues that will come out in monthly intervals. So, if you enjoy your World of Tanks: Blitz [Free] and comics, go pick this one up today.

Deck-Building Word Game ‘Paperback’ Coming to iOS Soon

Deck-Building Word Game ‘Paperback’ Coming to iOS Soon

If you’ve been reading my articles here at TouchArcade, you’ll know that I am a bookworm of the first order. So, when a game claims to blend world-building and deck-building together, well, sold. Paperback originally came out as a physical game, but now it appears it’s ready to make the leap into the digital world (like going from physical books to a Kindle). Paperback has you playing as an author trying to finish “kitschy” paperback novels like Westerns, Sci-Fi, Romance, and so on. You start with a deck of letter cards and wild cards, and as you form words, you make money to purchase even more powerful letters. Many of the letters come with special abilities that activate when used in a word (like doubling a letter score).

Paperback

The game is apparently close to being submitted for review, and while it will only come with AI and pass-and-play, there are thoughts of online asynchronous multiplayer in the future. This one sounds like great fun, and I like the idea of combining deck-building and word-building. So, I’m looking forward to this one.

‘Marvel Tsum Tsum’ Is Now Availalble in North America, Global Release Coming Later This Year

‘Marvel Tsum Tsum’ Is Now Availalble in North America, Global Release Coming Later This Year

Nothing says ferocious superhero like a cute, cylindrical, plush toy, right? Or are you going to tell me that Disney’s Marvel Tsum Tsums aren’t ferocious. Ferocious or not, these cute Tsum Tsums have been a great source of revenue for Disney, and after getting Disney Tsum Tsum on mobile, today North America is also getting Marvel Tsum Tsum [Free], and let me tell you, those guys and gals look very cute. The game is only out in North America for the time being, with the rest of the world following “later this year.” You get to play with superheroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Gamora, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, and many, many more. And, of course, we are getting the bad guys too: Loki, Ultron, Green Goblin, and Ronan the Accuser.

The gameplay is pretty much like the gameplay from any other Match-3 game, so no surprises there. There are a few wrinkles in the formula, but you’ll be playing this one for the theme. There is a Multiplayer Battle mode where players can team up to defeat Super Villains for greater rewards. You can also play many of the single-player levels as 2-player co-op. To celebrate the launch, Disney is running an in-game campaign from today until September 14th with many giveaways, so if you’re planning on playing the game, start doing so during these two weeks.

The Lovely ‘Fallen London’ Is Now Available on Android

The Lovely ‘Fallen London’ Is Now Available on Android

The world of Fallen London [Free] is one of my favorite worlds to visit since it’s a place dipped in gothic absurdity and dripping with quirky humor. When the game came on iOS, it found the perfect match in terms of platform, but the app itself was really buggy and plagued by server issues. Fortunately, most of those issues have been ironed out, and now the game has officially landed on Android. Apparently, when the developers asked Android users whether they wanted the game on their platform, they got an overwhelming yes as an answer. You can play the same save game across both iOS and Android – and PC if you have that too – but just remember to manually sync your game in app before switching so you don’t lose any progress.

If you haven’t played the game before, think of it as a literary RPG since you get to shape your character through the decisions you make as you enjoy its quirky world. You can go about buying places to live in, getting jobs, buying and selling stuff, all the while dealing with some very, very crazy storylines. The game is F2P, and if you don’t want to pay money, you really won’t be missing out on much other than some extra content you can only access through a subscription. Overall, this is a fantastic and very well realized world that you should definitely check out if you are on Android.

‘Pokemon GO’ Data Miners Have Found a New ‘Buddy’ System, Trading, and More, Potentially Coming Soon

‘Pokemon GO’ Data Miners Have Found a New ‘Buddy’ System, Trading, and More, Potentially Coming Soon

Even though some may argue that its popularity is dwindling somewhat, Pokemon GO [Free] is still going strong, and there are numerous new features on the horizon that Niantic plan to add in the coming months. Some of them we know – the new tracking system, which has seemingly released exclusively in San Francisco at the moment, is set to be rolled out worldwide soon, and promises such as being able to trade and battle friends were outlined before the game was released. However, there are some other surprising additions that are allegedly set to launch in the next Pokemon GO update. Data miners on both Reddit and Github have delved into the game’s code, and have revealed the potential presence of many of the aforementioned known features, but also brand new mechanics, such as a Pokemon ‘buddy’ system, and brand new incenses and items that could become available very soon.

The big new addition to a potential future Pokemon GO update is the ‘buddy’ system that has been detailed by data miners on PokemonGOHub. Anyone who has played Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver, the second generation remakes on DS, will have a good idea of what to expect – this ‘buddy’ system details the ability of having a specific Pokemon follow you while your trainer is walking around. This will use the same distance calculator as the egg hatching mechanic used, and so by walking further with your Pokemon, you are able to obtain candy – up to a daily limit. You can only walk one buddy at a time, and they should be animated next to you based on the features of your Pokemon (so a Spearow will be flying next to you, instead of walking on the ground) and even reflect the size of the individual creature. This will be a great new way to earn candy, and in accordance to the recent appraisal feature, will give Pokemon more purpose than simply battling or being transferred for candy.

The ‘buddy’ feature doesn’t appear to be the only mechanic coming to Pokemon GO soon, as Reddit user Cokuspocus managed to find another set of interesting secrets hidden in the game’s code. Firstly, it appears trading is in the game and will become accessible soon, and as one of the most requested additions amongst both the community and casual players, will go a long way to improving the social aspect of Pokemon GO. The ability to search for a trade, offer a Pokemon for trade, and respond to an offer are all present, and so whether this system will take on a style reminiscent of the GTS in the Pokemon titles (where you leave a Pokemon up for trade, and request another in return), or will be real time is still to be seen. Another mechanic listed is something called a ‘fort’, which appears to be similar to a gym, but allows you to add modifiers to it and also recall Pokemon at will. Considering another piece of data found was the ability to catch legendary Pokemon, many have suspected the two may be interlinked, but until the next update is released, this is pure conjecture.

Some other minor pieces of information that have been data mined includes specific incenses, ranging from ‘cool’, to ‘floral’ and ‘spicy’, which could be used to lure Pokemon of certain types to a Pokestop, rather than the current type which attracts Pokemon indiscriminately (or, in my case, just Pidgeys and Drowzees). There are also lines that infer items that affect capture rates at certain times or in specific scenarios, such as at night and on the first Pokeball throw. This would certainly make sense, as in the main games the Dusk Ball and Quick Ball respectively already fulfil these purposes. Of course, the fact that these features are all in the game’s code currently is by no means a confirmation of their existence – they could still be removed, and some concepts may not appear until many updates down the line. Regardless, some of these changes appear extremely promising, and suggest Niantic are serious about varying the playing experience to retain the user base that is beginning to tire of some of the more repetitious tasks of the game. If you have any ideas for the upcoming update, or opinions on some of the potential new features, be sure to share your views on our forum thread.
