Turn-Based Strategy Game ‘Battlefleet Gothic: Leviathan’ Releases Next Thursday

For all you Warhammer and strategy game fans out there, the wait is over. Battlefleet Gothic: Leviathan, the turn-based strategy game based on the Battlefleet Gothic tabletop miniatures game, releases next Thursday, and personally I can’t wait to play it. The game tries to be as faithful a digital port of the tabletop game as possible and hopes to bring to your phone and tablet the joy of blowing up your opponent again and again. The game takes place during the Shield of Baal campaign and has you playing as Imperial Navy, Blood Angels Space Marines, and Tyranid Hive fleets, with more playable races coming to the game soon.

And the game will also offer local and online multiplayer, an essential feature for a game like this one. When the game comes out, you should check our forum thread to find opponents to crush. In what will be good news for most – at least according to your comments – the game will be a premium title that will cost $ 5.99. See you all on battlefield next Thursday.

Rhythmic Roguelike ‘Crypt of the NecroDancer’ Launches for iOS and Apple TV

Rhythmic Roguelike ‘Crypt of the NecroDancer’ Launches for iOS and Apple TV

Brace Yourself Games has just launched the fantastic rhythmic roguelike Crypt of the NecroDancer [$ 4.99] for iOS and Apple TV. The game’s been out on desktop and console for a while now, but finally you can play this game on mobile. The hook is that it’s similar to many roguelikes in that you go from tile to tile, and bump into enemies to attack them, but you have to move and act as according to the rhythm of the music. Oh, and each level has its own music tracks with their own beats, the enemies all have their own predictable yet complicated behaviors. There’s secrets to discover, permanent unlocks to be had for the main campaign, and characters with different behaviors that will alter the way the game works.

The mobile port of Crypt of the NecroDancer is the full game that’s been adapted to mobile with a few different control schemes, including a unique edge based system where your left thumb has access to up, left, and down controls, and your right thumb can use up, right, and down, with two directions needed to activate items. The game was designed to be playable on Dance Dance Revolution dance pads, so every action in the game can be done with the four directions, or combinations therein. There’s also swipe, dual d-pads, and MFi controls. Every feature from the desktop version is here: custom soundtracks are done via the iTunes music library, there’s co-op play if you have multiple gamepads, and the game has Apple TV support. I’ll have a review of the mobile version soon, but based on how much time I’ve spent with the game on PC, and how well the mobile port is done ? you’ll want to check this out.

Slitherine’s ‘Gettysburg: The Tide Turns’ Goes Into PC Beta Soon, iOS to Come Later

Slitherine’s ‘Gettysburg: The Tide Turns’ Goes Into PC Beta Soon, iOS to Come Later

One of my favorite iOS wargames is Shenandoah Studio’s Battle of the Bulge [$ 9.99], so I’ve always kept an ear out for any game that has anything to do with that company. Unfortunately, as you might already know, after releasing some really good wargames, Shenadoah went bankrupt (for reasons that aren’t totally clear) and Slitherine decided to acquire the studio. What that meant is that Slitherine also inherited the kickstarted Gettysburg: The Tide Turns, which has been in development for too many years. Recently we wrote how Slitherine had given us Q3 2016 release window for Gettysburg, and if we go by the company’s announcement of the game going into beta testing for the PC imminently, the release shouldn’t be too far off.

Now, the initial Slitherine announcement didn’t mention iOS anywhere, and that got many gamers wondering because the game was kickstarted as an iOS game first and foremost. We’ve talked in the past about Slitherine walking away from iOS to focus on PC, so the announcement got people worried that we might not see the game on iOS after all. Slitherine, though, came out today to ease any concerns and reassured players that the iOS version will come; the company just considers it easier to develop and iterate on the PC before moving on to the iOS version.

As for the game, you can see in the teaser trailer above that the game has retained its lovely battle map-like aesthetic that stood out when I first saw it. According to the announcement, the game is easy to learn thanks to its minimalistic interface but challenging thanks to its innovative activation system. The game takes inspiration from board games and randomizes when each division moves and fights, which should help make the game feel fresh over the long run. I’ve been looking forward to this one for quite some time now, and my hope is that the app works better than the “redesigned” Battle of the Bulge one that fell short of the original pre-Slitherine one. ‘Monster Hunter Freedom Unite’ is Getting Updated Very Soon

‘Monster Hunter Freedom Unite’ is Getting Updated Very Soon

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Freedom Unite [$ 14.99] has been broken for… What feels like forever. It was one of the many games that got smoked out with the release of iOS 9, and somewhere along the timeline of this whole cluster-you-know-what they eventually just removed it from the App Store. Earlier this year some clever jailbreakers figured out a tweak to get the game running again, but everyone else was stuck waiting for the update which has been rife with delays. Well, per recent news from Capcom, the update will be hitting inside of the next ten days.

…And that’s basically where the news stops. But, it is good news considering the last thing we heard about the Monster Hunter series was that the soft launched Monster Hunter Explore was shutting down. I think Freedom Unite finally getting updated is a pretty great trade-off. The only thing left to be seen is whether or not this update just pops up randomly, or if it’ll slither out with the rest of next week’s new releases.
